i have played at abbey many of time it ant that hard if you can hit far. but if you can you will have problems. At the moment the greens are looking well nice and a very nice CHEAP course to play at.

Abbey Hill is just a Deep Red Driver and a long iron from my house and being my local course I have played there many times over the years since first playing the course just after it opened about 25+ years ago. I have witnessed many changes to the club and course over the years and having played the course during January 2002 was disappointed at its condition. I realise that it is winter and that there is a fair degree of work taking place on the course, particularly to the bunkers, but I have certainly seen it better even at this time of year. However, Abbey Hill still has the potential to be a good golfing challenge but it would presumably require substantial funds to improve the course itself. Unfortunately I believe that it suffers from it is past and still has that `stigma`, if that is the correct word, of being a former council run course. Hopefully the ongoing and future!!!! Improvements to the course and facilities will improve its image and it will get a more deserving press than it seems to get at present.
It was interesting to read the few comments made by others about Abbey Hill. If more people would do the same then maybe that would help the club in the long run. I agree with M. Phillimore 7/01in that a little care and attention is what this course needs and it will improve greatly.
For the record, holes 5, 6, 11 and 18 are my favourites. What are yours?
P.S. Do any of you other golfers when playing, talk about what potential improvements you would make to the courses that you play if you were to have the chance? Myself and my regular playing partner often do. Maybe there`s a future career change beckoning and I`m only a driver and long iron away from Abbey Hill!!
Here`s to enjoying golf wherever you play and whatever you score. It could always be worse.

Abbey Hill has the potential to be a superb course. The layout is nice and some of the holes, particularly on the front 9 are very challenging - but condition wise it is lacking - I hit two nice iron shots onto the 11th - 400-odd yard S.I. one - upon reaching the green I found 3 greenkeepers getting rid of an oil spill their truck had left on the green - I was not impressed - 3 putted over the water for a 5.
Like Wavendon, all the course needs is some care and it can be very nice - the best pay and play course in the area remains 3 Locks - although if you can find a member (like me) - Aspley Guise is still the best there is for me.

I happen to be the junior club captain and I think the course is in excellent condition and it has many golfers with different abilities. There are high handicappers but which course doesn't. If you visited Abbey Hill today you will find a variety of golfers and even the juniors are better than a certain 12 handicapper! Oh and I will play there again. A well worth visit.

I have played Abbey Hill many times and find that the golfers who use it are of a high handicap, and do not know the golf rules after a week at work is frustrating; and I will not be playing there again.
