Allestree Park GC offers a challenging course, and despite it not being the longest course in England, will leave you with a great sense of achievement (and aching feet!) when you're at the 19th! I would echo completely the sentiments of others who say it's the best municipal course they've played - and still only £11 for an adult round, with my 16-year old son playing for just £6 (June 2002).

Allestree Park is a municipal golf course set in mature parkland. A round of golf at Allestree is great value for money. I have played courses where I have paid in excess of £20 and the challenge is not up to that of Allestree.
The course is one that rewards good shots and punishes the bad. Both the 5th, 11th and 17th holes are all par 3's that require a good tee shot to carry over obstacles that are nothing short of impossible to escape from, that is assuming you find your ball.
The 12th hole is one of the most difficult par fives I have come across. The hole is some 540yards of which it is all on an incline from tee to green. The fairway is some 50 yards across with jungle rough to the left and trees to the right.
The green staff at Allestree must be congratulated on the excellent state the course is kept in.
The only fault I can find with Allestree is the number dog walkers who do not have any golf etiquette and sometimes inadvertently walk across fairways and put themselves in danger.
Some beautiful views of the surrounding Derbyshire countryside add a subtle complement to a challenging golf course that is well worth a visit.

Allestree is a well-kept, hilly municipal golf course, which offers great views of Derbyshire. I played it three or four times while working in Derby and found it very enjoyable. With a price of less than £10 you cannot go far wrong - some tricky longer holes and a difficult par 3 over tall trees. One or two holes are a little featureless but on the whole the best municipal I have played. You can even grab a drink or ice cream after the 6th!
