My wife and I (from St. Louis, MO)played Galway Bay in late May, 2005 for what was to have been our last round in Ireland before returning home after an 11 day visit. It rained the entire round at Galway.
The next day was absolutely gorgeous and we decided we had to play one more round so we could depart Ireland on a high note. We found Athenry listed in the Ireland Golf Digest magazine, called, and booked a 10:00 am tee time.
What a delightful course. As we were short on time, and incredibly spent from the prior day in the rain, we hired a buggy and were able to play the course in 2 1/2 hours going through only one gracious foursome during the round. The course was in beautiful condition and quite dry considering the heavy rain the day before.
Everyone was very friendly, including the course marshall who would show up occasionally to ensure that we found our way to the correct tee on the few holes which were a bit confusing. I shot a 77 and my wife an 89, so we were able to end our trip on the high note we had wanted.
We hope to return to Athenry to enjoy a more leisurely round.

Two new greens 13th & 15th to add to an excellent test of golf. Friendly for the high handicapper. Well worth a visit

Excellent course - good greens - good fairways. You need to be accurate. 16th excellent hole. Some very difficult par 3s in the woods. Very busy

I live in London but my wife is from Athenry, so I play there every summer when we visit.
The course is a good layout for all standards and appears to be in good condition all year round. There are some great feature holes around the woods. When the wind blows, it is a very different challenge.
The clubhouse provides a warm friendly atmosphere where you are always welcome.
    I'd recommend this to anyone.

I played Athenry Golf Club back in 1995 and found it in great condition, the greens especially. Lots of mature trees and some very good short par fours that make you think twice about pulling the driver out. I've been coming to Ireland for over ten years now, it's hard to find courses that suit the various handicaps, but there's something for everyone here. When we return this year [2000] it will be in our list of courses to play.

I am a member at Athenry Golf Club for the past four years and during this time I have witnessed many developments. We have extended the 16th and 18th holes and created a new 17th hole. With the addition of such beautiful holes, Athenry's golf course presents- even to the most competent golfer - a challenge.
