Barkway Park is a young course and has been subject to frequent changes over the last few years however this has resulted in a course that is challenging to all standards. The course is on the whole well designed with many cleverly placed features and greens that rank alongside virtually any in the county. Holes two, three and eight are probably the best on the front nine but many others prove as tricky. Although many of the fairways are long and straight it is the simply fearsome rough that makes even the lowest of handicappers cautious with attacking shots many of which live to regret their actions, consequently the roughs are awash with lost balls from previously played over ambitious strokes. My one criticism would be attention to detail and presentation in some of the far reaches of the course for example many course developments tend to take large amounts of time often leaving large piles of mud and rubble around the course which is obviously highly unpleasant to the eye. Overall a very pleasant course which with a bit of fine tuning could be a very good course, however as it stands it is still very enjoyable to play and will only get better as it matures.
