I walked on just a couple of days before my wedding, so I was in a decent mood. Bedale is a fine and classic example of English parkland golf. Many of the tree-lined holes reminded me of classic American parkland holes, but the English ones came first, so you know who is imitating who. The 'new' holes across the road lack the maturity of the other holes, but they make up for it in strategic interest. There's a big par 5 down then up a hill that I though was strong and the holes that are close to the clubhouse boast the most charm.
I made a twenty footer for par on the last hole which proves that I wasn't that nervous about getting married! A thoroughly pleasant and unassuming course that probably deserves more kudos than it gets.

As for the 4 holes across the road on the back nine. There has been 7000 trees planted. The 13th from the yellow tees which you drive across the marsh is certainly a great feature hole and is a test to the low handicap golfers.
If you care to visited our club this summer I think you would omit the words touch scruffy from your comments.
Thanks your comments about the Club and the course.
    Kind Regards

Bedale is a well kept and challenging course. The principal hazards are fairway lining trees and bunkers. The absence of any serious rough and just a couple of water hazards means that high handicappers (like me) spend most of their time trying to advance their ball rather than look for it. Dog legs on this course are so frequent as to become almost monotonous and the 'crossing of the road' during the back nine means four holes that are just a touch scruffy in comparison to the top class quality of the rest of the course.
Beware the 18th, a slight hook endangers players walking down the first, a wild slice is equally as worrying for those walking down the 17th.
A super clubhouse serving excellent all day breakfasts and a pint of Guinness poured as if you were in Ireland. Worth the money!
