Belleisle has a magnificent James Braid designed municipal course. It plays as a parklands track, more like an American course than most here. The starter's office and pro shop are located on the bottom floor of the stately Belleisle Hotel. The Robert Burns Cottage and Museum are less than a mile away. Belleisle hosted the Senior Scottish PGA Championship and is a regular stop on the Tartan Tour, which is run by the Scottish PGA.

Parkland course. Belleisle is unique in that it opens with back-to-back par fives, but every hole is a distinct challenge. Hundreds of beech trees line the wide fairways, and there are wonderful views of the Isle of Arran from the sixth and seventh holes.

I played this course in June 2004. I must admit that the grand clubhouse, luxury cars in car park and opulent surrounds had me somewhat intimidated but I shouldn't have been. Extremely friendly welcome and a beautiful course. Really well manicured and fair. Absolutely must recommend and will play on my next sojourn to Ayrshire.

Played Belleisle May 2004 in windy conditions. Very nicely conditioned, attractive parkland municipal course. Few muni courses in the US are maintained to this level. A nice day of relief play from more difficult private club links courses in the area. Long par fours, short par fives. Good lunch in attractive bar on second floor of hotel, overlooking the course.

Ayr Belleisle is one of the best traditional parkland courses in Scotland (and possibly the UK). It has some very challenging long par fours and would be a regular pro tour venue if it didn't have too many par 3's (5) and a not so challenging par 5 opening hole. Whilst often overplayed it can be in great shape if the municipal authorities have spent the time on the green-keeping.

Belleisle golf course, Ayr. Park course 18,5 pounds. Nice and easy park course for any golfer. The wind is not a factor as it is not a links course. If you're a low handicapper it might be too easy.
