Course Details

Course Name: Bowenhurst Holes: 9 Yardage: 2007 SSS:
Many people think that Bowenhurst Golf Club is a Mickey Mouse course, especially the pay and play members. I have been a member for three years and I think the course is very challenging, hence my handicap of 24. Although the course is a short 9 holes made up of par three and par four holes each requires deadly accuracy, otherwise its out of bounds in the thick mass of trees. The first three holes are fairly straight forward.

A round in level par is a good result if you are not a professional like myself, I settle for a 40, nine over.

1st - Par 4, 285y, OB right, water left. Green surrounded by trees and a ditch. Par a good start.
2nd - Long par 3, 197y, again OB on left and thick trees right; accuracy is key, two bunkers either side of green.
3rd - Short par 3, 138y, tree right of green followed by a bunker provide a difficult shot, depending on pin position. Overshoot the green and its a bunker or water, go left and its OB
4th- Par 5, 376y hardest hole on course because of difficulty rather than length. Good tee shot essential. Big hitters can clear a fairway tree and bunker, hit left and its wet or OB, also OB to right. Doing well to get second shot on green; otherwise its up to the corner and a chip to the green. Don't overshoot as there are bunkers. Trees and a ditch look after any shots heading right.
5th - Par 3, 155y par 3, picturesque hole surrounded by trees. Straight is the only way, otherwise its three off the tee. The three tiered green provides interesting putting and a challenge to any level of golfer. Deep faced bunker front left of green is a difficult one to get close to the pin from.
6th - Right dogleg 376 y. Terrific first shot over driving range fence and trees. Otherwise a straight shot leaves a lie to the green, but still 180y to go. Beware of fairway bunkers, trees and a big pond as shots are lost here. Staying left of the green is the key as two deep bunkers provide protection.
7th - Short par 3, 114y, with trees left and immediately right of tee. A large gauze bush takes any wayward shots and a bunker with a vertical face is the one to steer clear of. Flat green, so birdies are plentiful.
8th - Birdieable par 4, 238 y, with few hazards. Green surrounded by bunkers and has a steep climb with a small plateau and a big heart at the rear.
9th - 144 y OB left. Green has a pond either side. Birdie possible with straight shot from tee.
