Bowring Park Golf Club, the first municipal golf course in England, is within the grounds of Bowring Park, a as a leisure and recreational park built on land donated to the people of Liverpool by the Bowring family in 1907. The original 9 hole hole course of 1913 has since been lengthened to 18 holes.

The Society for the Friends of Bowring Park was founded on 2nd March 1989 with the object of protecting Bowring Park and adjacent open spaces and assisting with the restoration of amenities in Bowring Park.

During 1998, the course, club house and general facilities underwent refurbishment. The fairways and greens were brought up to the standards. At the time of writing however, catering and changing facilities were unavailable. Fees are very reasonable, as might be expected of a municipal course.

Course Name: Bowring Park Holes: 18 Yardage: 5592 SSS: 66
Bowring Park is a parkland course which integrates a number of golfing experiences with a well balanced mixture of par 3 & 4 holes. However, all 18 holes offer a good experience for all abilities. Though not unduly long the course provides a test to all but the straightest of hitters.

this is one of the worst kept coarses i have ever played there is no dress code there were people walking in front of the fairways walking dogs and just wondering round. The greens were very poor, fairways like rough, a wasted saturday for me and would not go again if it was free.
    Dont waste your money people.

I play here most weeks, its a beautiful little course and the ground staff do exceptionally well given the limited council budget. The greens are in excellent order. As its a municipal course you will get random groups of kids and beginners so play early if possible.

This is a good course but the first hole after you cross the bridge lets this course down as the fairway is patchy. Overall it is a nice course.

This is one of the best maintained municipal courses in the country. The greens are excellent-far better than many private courses in the area. It always impresses me to see groups of greenkeeping staff tending the course and raking the bunkers early every Saturday and Sunday morning when I play. It is a flat and straightforward course. There are no par fives but many of the par fours are very long-several are in excess of 400 yards.
However there is one major problem with this course and that is the behaviour of a minority of the people who use it. I always tee off at first light in a 2 ball so I am first out on the course. After we have played a few holes we always catch up on slow fourballs who decide to play the holes in a random order. We have never been called through yet. It is a shame that Knowsley council who run and look after the course so well do not try to do something about this. There appears to be a mentality that you can start your round at any point on the course you choose. If ever a course needed a ranger it is here.

I think this course is very disappointing. The fairways are as long as any other courses rough but the greens are in great condition. I feel the shop and buildings need refurbishing to make this course good.

Bowring Park is a great little course, the tees, greens and bunkers are all in great condition and would put many private clubs to shame. But and this is a big but. After 18:00pm when the course shops closes, it is open season for every low life in the area to descend on the course. Prepare to have 6 ball groups cutting in front of you at random as they make their way around the course paying no attention to the order in which the holes are laid out. Beware of youths on mopeds riding around the course and across the greens. A great shame, a good course that will be ruined unless some action is taken to keep these idiots off the course.

I have played Bowring Park Golf Course and thought although it is in very good condition and the greens are very well kept and fast I felt that the lack of par 5s and only two par 3s and neither of them very challenging that this course was a little disappointing.

This is a great little course and there is about 3 par 5's if you play from the red tee's check your scorecards.

I agree about the lack of par 5's and the issue witht the par 3's but it is a municipal and it is in as good order as any local private courses. The greenkeepers deserve great credit for the way the course is maintained
