As a newcomer to golf I thought that this course could provide a good chance to practice my skills without paying a high green fee. I had read the reviews on here and noticed that they were written quite a while ago.
    The good points:-
    * The course was nice and quiet, no queuing for people to leave the green, and no people watching over your shoulder as you nervously take your 1st tee shot.
    * The setting is very quiet and picturesque - there is a lovely lake/river and it is set on undulating parkland.
    * It doesn't involve a lot of walking around and I would say you could get around in an hour.
    * The 7th tee from the White and Yellow tees has an interesting hit across the water to reach the fairway.
    * With lots of trees, bushes, bunkers and water there are enough obstacles to give even a seasoned player a bit of a challenge
    * At £6 it compares well to other local courses
    The not so good points:-
    * As this is a council owned and operated course the level is obviously not the same as you would expect from a full golf club. I would not like to criticise the ground keeper however as the fairways were mown and there is obviously an attempt to keep the greens in good shape.
    * Unfortunately, the same level of care can't be said of fellow players as there were lots of unrepaired divots on the fairways on greens
    * The course is very wet and in places was quite boggy. We have had a lot of rain recently so maybe this isn't so bad in a dry period. It meant that there were lots of flies and midges around though.
    * I lost a few balls as the grass is quite long in places and when you are hitting into the sun it is difficult to see where the ball lands and then find it in the long grass.
    * Due to the surface of the greens I gave up trying to putt into the hole and just moved my ball and practiced pitching onto it instead.
All in all, it wasn't bad, but I think that for the extra few pounds I will be sticking to courses that are better maintained.

This is a great almost untouched course with holes to test the golfers with higher handicaps.

This course is ideal for the 2nd level beginner. The tees can be less than flat but the target fairways are mostly narrow and sloping providing stiff practice for all comers. The greens are very well looked after for a municipal pay and play course (although watch out for badgers and swans). The blind par 3, 7th hole is a little gem that many big course players are envious of. The honesty system of payment works really well. You can get round nine holes in about an hour, no tee time restrictions - great if you are just passing through.

I played Bradford on Avon a few weekends ago. It's a great course for a practice too. If you consider a bucket o balls is around £3.50 (2 buckets for £5 at Cumberwell at the moment) then £6 for 9 holes means some proper practice, around 50 shots/balls in all manner of conditions, with a proper target instead of just hitting it 'kinda' straight. It's a lovely course for the money & it beats he range hands down!
