>Brampton is not only a fine test of all the golf skills but also has some of the finest views around and provides good physical excercise. There are no two holes alike at Brampton and you are required to place the ball from the tee, so you can not always use the big wood, to be able to hit the small well protected greens.....local knowledge certainly comes in handy and it is unlikely that you will score well the first time you play it. My favourite hole is the 3rd, played on a warm summer evening. A long par 4, 422yds played hard up against the out of bounds and the Carlisle to Newcastle railway embankment.
>A carry of 150yds over clingling rough will see you safely onto a slightly sloping fairway.Your next shot played with a medium to long iron is right to the end of the course. Do not slice it or you end up in deep rough or on the railway line, do not hook it or you end up over the fence in the copse. The undulating green is well protected by bunkers left and right and even the putt is not straightforward. The backdrop to the green is mature pine trees with some wonderful birdlife so even if you do not make par you cancan enjoy the quite undisturbed singing of the wildlife.

Played 17.4.98, in windy conditions. Two weeks after major floods on bottom hole, course was dry, well managed, and a 3.5 hour round. For an open, new course, condition of greens and fairways excellent, friendly clubhouse, and while mostly fairly open, some tough holes. Enjoyable for everyone - and only 12. Pay play. Worth a trip if visiting nearby Althorp!
