A very 'user' friendly 9 hole course. Ideal for beginners and still something in it for the more experienced golfer. Broome Manor is ideally placed for the 'get off early from work brigade' so be prepared to wait in the evenings!
Don't be fooled though by the fact that there are four par 3's: each has a character of it's own and a little mischievousness too for the complacent or cavalier amongst us. The 2nd hole, par 5, is a left to right dogleg that WILL catch slicer's out.
Check out the 9-hole at Highworth, just north of Swindon. These are both run by Swindon Borough Council and excellent municipal courses. The Highworth course is a little newer and will improve with maturity. It has an ideal par 5 for long hitters and a couple of uphill holes which will test the legs of the fittest mountain goat (the green on the 7th is well hidden at the top of the hill It is allot more open and has generously wide fairways.
A curious item: due to a peculiar pricing policy at Broome Manor you have to pay twice to play 18 holes on the 9 hole which, works out more than the green fee for the 18 hole. (Which it is almost impossible to get onto in the summer without prior booking). Yet at Highworth you pay the same for 9 holes as you do at Broome Manor but pay a reduced fee for your second 9!!
Nevertheless, both are enjoyable courses and worth the couple of hours or so it takes to get round. The refreshment and practise facilities at Broome Manor are excellent.
