Hole 5 is inhabited by the creatures that make this course spectacular. Squirrels and pheasants mingle quite happily with golf nuts such as ourselves. The hole itself is a seven iron which , if hit sweetly , will take you to the heart of the green. But beware of wood to the right.
Hole 6 is guarded by a bunker to the left of the green. A grassy knoll to the right comes in handy and will feed the ball down onto the green.
Hole 7 is the shortest hole on this par 3 course. A sweet nine iron or wedge finds a green well guarded front , side and rear by shallow bunkers. Beware going right. The old overgrown tennis courts have gobbled up many a wayward slice.
Hole 8 is a long one. A 3 iron will just about reach the front of the large green if struck sweetly. Thick woods right make this a tricky hole. I play it as a par 4.
Hole 9 - the daddy of this Duchess Course. The longest hole , I play it as a par 4 , aiming to land my ball at he mouth of the green. A chip up to the flat green will bring reward but watch out or danger right off the tee. The fairway is narrow , so it is important to keep your shot as straight as you can.
All in all , two rounds of 9 holes is a very satisfying golfing experience. This course is excellently maintained so the greens are excellent. There are many dangers so if you are a real novice , you can get rid of some golf balls quite easily - having said that , you find a few too!
On a sunny day , with the views , the tranquility , the wildlife , the flora , this course takes some beating. highly recommend a round or two. For the cost of £4 , this is excellent value for money.
