Its another ditto from us. Yes disappointing to find Cannons court closed for 6 weeks but when we had our committee meeting it was agreed it was for the Best & Health of the Club/Greens & Course generally. We are very lucky to have this course it is perfect. A small friendly club.
Could do with some new members

I'm reading the reviews and want to ditto the last one from Derek
Canon Court is probably the best maintained course in the Gloucester and Bristol areas that I've played . It's perfect conditions make for the best golf no mater how you play
I am also speaking on behalf of a few others I've spoken to so please read on
Canon Court had disappointed me by being closed through January this year but to be honest I did play on another three courses nearby: 2 were simply terrible & grounds man needs sacking: one I played the First and eighth only And would never go back there.
Terrible courses with bad approaches to the etiquette of golf
They're just after your money & just about everyone there was moaning about bad conditions But the conditions were made worse because of selfish golfers wanting to play in terrible conditions. It's a catch 22 situation
But now I can totally appreciate my Club @ Canons Court
Learned my lesson .... Canon court golf nurtures its greens by keeping us off & other golfers off hackers off during ' unfit to play' conditions
It's basically telling us golfers and members - if we want perfection 10 months of the year respect your golf & your course when weather doesn't allow us to play
If you've got GOLF ETIQUETTE then you can understand this, if not, I'm happy to say go and hack up somewhere else.
You obviously don't understand etiquette or golf ( I didn't ) but experiencing the other courses I am bolting back 100 mph back to my club)
having experienced nasty hacked up muddy courses during the rainy month !
My review stands here as does my opinion IF you want the best then Canon Court is the course for you If you could care less then the others will take your money I learned my lesson and got my etiquette back
Now my review about The Club House which is OK
    I think perhaps an uplift.
Some warmth perhaps being open more might do the trick
I think the Club House ambiance could improve if more of us used it. It lacks invitation
    You feel slightly unwelcome
I'm being honest and trying not to sound winching
I hope you find my review helpful
We could do with some new blood for competitions. I'm a senior player but my son and both my grand sons play at Canon court

Gary has left a brilliant review although don't agree with his negative points. Overall the 9 hole golf course has the best greens I have seen. More superior than any other course around. My last visit was 2013 and since then I can see huge improvements to course maintenance. Club house and memberships have become a more competitive coverage Th golf played yesterday was one of my personal best and after 18 holes the club house and its staff made my visit well worth while I quite honestly feel this little golf course buried at the foot of the Cotswolds is one of the best course I have played. I live in Cambridge and play probably twice to three times a week around the country as I sell catering equipment. Definitely worth a visit

Our first visit was in 2010 and we were unimpressed with course , play , ambiance , quality. Staff were un impressive. Badly behaved kids seemed to be allowed to frequent public areas and made our visit to club house fairly distressed
2012 we visited again touring Europe and allowed this time to park our van in car park
Course was improved. Food in club house was in abundance and good quality staff seemed better
But we did note an air of behavioral issues and what seems an argument brewing which felt uncomfortable to us But it seemed a staff problems blew over Added to the entertainment I guess
2014. How impressed we were. What changes had been made. The course one million times better. The quality of the whole place turned around Absolutely brilliant playing conditions. Fantastic challenging course. Well maintained. Excellently presented. The best we played anywhere in years both in Europe and home
The club house changed. Clean. Impressively warm and cosy. Staff and management brilliant
Food average but we didn't come to eat mountains of bread! The owner Paul seemed well versed in Golf. Recently returned from his own 'trip' Play & teaching .
    Humorous and friendly.
His wife Laine was extremely pleasant well versed in conversation and outwardly interested in the experience of her customers journey and wanted them to feel relaxed and happy. Value for money.
    Well done. Excellent visit
We even extended stay for 4 extra days staying in on-sight cottages Really great value, clean , modern brilliant location
Thank you for the Golf tips Happy travels to you both. Life in Australia is great - we can vouch for that ! Wonderful couple

( next planned visit earlier than anticipated 2015/6)

I was so impressed with this small but Big /9 hole club. I have introduced friends and others this year and none if them disappointed. Well done Paul the course is the Best Around and improved so much since last visit in 2012.
Everything has improved the customer service the food the relentless abundance of variety in play. The atmosphere brilliant.
        Love it

I am a member of Canons Club and never write on these forums but my wife has encouraged me to do so to promote the Club even more for its value for money, charming and wonderful atmosphere. And to say well done to Paul and staff. The course is wonderful, its nooks and crannies, its resemblance to something from a picture book scene. The course encourages you to think every shot it is indeed challenging and an exciting course simply the best course around and over the years is improving month on month. This year the best I have ever seen it. The conditions perfect and with the memberships increasing the competition is increasing. All visitors, Golfers or not, are made welcome and simply cannot believe the course conditions - I’ve noted this year more and more visitors coming to simply eat in the restaurant or have a relaxing drink el fresco on the patio quietly readying a book or enjoying a friendly chit chat or meeting. I’ve met so many different folk at the Club this year and I know they cater for small wedding and anniversaries in the most exquisite surroundings.
It really is worth a visit...
The restaurant and club house is charming with home cooked fresh foods, Sunday Lunches, variety of menu to everyone tastes. A great wine list and wonderful staff. Spotlessly clean thanks to Helen and excellent customer service. There is no unfriendliness that sometimes you as a stranger can be subjected too from other clubs; there are no ‘player clicks’ at Canons Court. We are all competitive but love the thrill of the play and later the thrill of the results and ambiance in the club house. Genuine feedback from a very happy member. Well done Paul and Laine.

We are not yet members but we do play at Canons court and have always found the owner who is Paul Bennett and his partner Laine great hosts. Claire and Adam run the club very professionally and I am content to know that when my son and his friend play, aged 15, 16 they are safe and advice and guidance is always at hand. It is a family run Club which is good to know as children are always welcome. The food is great and children catered for. There is always a smile and a caring atmosphere.
Its such a shame that sometimes a bad review or a pointless message is put on the site but I am sure those genuine and loyal to canons court will ignore the rants of others. Evaluations 9 out of 10.

Yes, course is good for beginners, but does get waterlogged when there has been a down pour.We were unfortunate to play on such a day, the course is family run and they are for the most part uninviting a pity really as they are trying to run a going concern. I pity the members.

Be aware of course rules as the owner is very stick and seems to lack any manners when approaching you to inform you of any violation of the course rules.
I only know of this after playing from the members tee on a water logged day and finding the owner approaching in his buggy whilst using his horn. He then proceeded to ask “Do you know the rules?” without even saying hello or good morning.
This did catch me off guard and think that a little courtesy would have helped.
The course is also quite narrow and this does not allow for any error in your shot, because your ball will go out of play and get lost off the course.

Have heard a lot about this particular comment and am glad to have finally discovered it.
I remember this visitor and welcome the opportunity to put forward my version of events.
The course was wet that day as we were the only course open in the area due to the amount of rain over the last few days. Due to this we were on temporary tees.
This visitor(a member of a local CLOSED club) decided he would rather use the white teeing areas even though all tee markers had been removed and placed on the temps!!
Having watched him and his partner from the clubhouse it was my job to drive out in the pouring rain to ask them to adhere to the markers (as everyone else had managed all day) and tee off from the correct positions.

An excellent little golf course in beautiful surroundings, just under the Cotswold hills. The course itself is not long (5124 yards), but almost all holes are testing, with out of bounds mainly on the right. The Par-5 8th hole is probably the signature hole, with an accurate drive required to hit the fairway and give you the chance of being on for 2. (The easier option is to lay-up well short of the lake with a low to mid iron and thence to the green in regulation) Friendly club, imagine it's a good course for beginners to play - as long as they don't slice!)

Their family run the business extremely well. They have amazing functions and I have attended most of them . The Casino evening run by the Owners partner was fantastic, really enjoyable. Very exciting and professionally run. They do alot for local charities and I would call for everyone to support them if they can! The course is brilliant and the new Golf Pro professional and gives a good lesson even to those who think they can play!!! I would recommend this Club to anyone wanting a stress game, entertainment, a good pint and if you give them your email address up to date news on competitions, events etc. Mike
