I have been a member of Chalfont Park (now Oakland Park) since its opening in 1994. The course has changed somewhat from those early days when it was a 9-hole challenge.
The transition to 18 holes was always a priority and the 'new' 9 opened some 18 months later. Oakland Park is not the longest course in the area but it is probably the least hilly. Locally it is regarded as the 'thinking man's' course, a well positioned tee shot is more likely to set up a birdie opportunity than the 'country mile' strike which could in fact land you in trouble. Accuracy will always pay dividends at this course.
Recent changes to the course layout have evened up the outward and inward nines. Holes 16, 17 & 18 are three of the toughest and many a commanding lead can be whittled away by the time you play your approach shot over the pond to the 18th green with only the 'laughing' ducks for company.
You have now completed the challenge however and the welcome, which awaits you in the clubhouse, will make it all seem worthwhile. Friendly faces and excellent cuisine, who could ask for more? I hope you enjoy your visit to Oakland Park.
