Course Details

Course Name: Course 1 Holes: 18 Yardage: 5496 SSS: 67
The course is laid out over fell land to the east of Cockermouth and is easily accessible from the A66 cross Pennine road. At 5496 yards the course is not regarded as easy. Nevertheless it provides a stern test for the discerning golfer, particularly when the prevailing south westerly wind blows. One positive feature of the course is the panoramic views it offers. Looking back from the fifth tee, one can see Bassenthwaite Lake with the well known Skiddarn Fell in the background. Walking down the tenth fairway, one can look over Cockermouth town to the Solway Firth and beyond to the Dumfries and Galloway coast. From the same fairway and on a clear day it is possible to see the Isle of Man.

Absolutely marvellous!! Although some fairways are not much better than a farm field (early spring) the views were fantastic, the greens were very good (some are fenced in to keep animals off and on the first green I stepped over the fence looking very wairily over my shoulder in case I was trespassing!!).I am a 20 handicapper and playing off yellows went round in level par then 2 under.Really enjoyed the challenge!! Quite a climb up the third hole , but worth the effort!!
