Duff House Royal Golf Club
The Barnyards, Although golf is supposed to have been played at Banff for 400 years, it was only in May 1871 that organised golf was conceived. Some 52 years later in 1923 at the request of Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, the club added the 'Royal' suffix to its name and now is one of only 64 golf clubs throughout the world to have the privilege of the word 'Royal' in its title. The original full course in its present location was laid out in 1909 and was formally opened by a match between two of the great 'Triumvirate' - JH Taylor and James Braid. In 1952 the club amalgamated with the declining Banff Golf Club and played on a course reconstructed by the brilliant Golf Architect's Dr A and Major C.A Mackenzie whose next task was to be the designing of Augusta National Course in Georgia, home of the U.S Masters. The first official exhibition match played on Duff House Royal's existing course was between the British and U.S.A Open Champion Ted Ray and the famous British Professional, Sandy Hird. The clubhouse has commanding views over the first and last holes. Large comfortable bar and lounge areas with one side completely window area. Professional (Mr RS Strachan) has well stocked shop. Private tuition is available. Directions Visitor Details
