What a surprise! Machrihanish was a pilgrimage, but Dunaverty was one of the most fun rounds we had. Couse is quite short, but the spectacular opening holes along the ocean were breathtaking. The hike up to the 11th tee was also breathtaking, but the view all the way over to Northern Ireland from there was spectacular.

Dunaverty golf course is one I have played regularly since I was a boy in the 50's.
It's condition has improved to such an extent that you will find it difficult to play on such a well presented 18 holes anywhere. The beauty that you encounter on every tee is simply idyllic and the challenge that the course offers varies depending on your own expectations. No matter what your handicap is--no matter how well you perform on the day-you finish a round on Dunaverty knowing that you are a winner-- and desperate to repeat the experience.

What can I say that hasn't already been said above. I first played Dunaverty in 1994 on a golfing weekend with some friends. We all loved it and ended up being country members for a few years, playing at least 12 times a year.
Although not the most challenging coarse in normal conditions, when the wind starts blowing (quite often) it can become a tad difficult. Quite simply, as an average golfer, it is the most fun I have ever had on a golf coarse.

This is my favourite course in the country. It's not the toughest or best laid out, not even the best kept, just simply a glorious spot, always quiet and damn good fun.
My friends and I travel from as far as Paris to play there twice a year in our own little tournament. It's the most looked forward to event of our year!

Dunaverty is not a championship course; it's only about 4600 yards, par 64, but it's a fun layout. Terrific views of the sea; on a clear day they say you can see Northern Ireland, only about 15 miles away. Some of the greens have electrified fence around them to keep the cows away. Play this one for fun and for historical value; it's like golf was centuries ago. If you play nearby Machrihanish, play this one also.
