Course Details

Course Name: Finchley Holes: 18 Yardage: 6356 SSS: 71
James Braid designed course with narrow fairways, sloping greens and most holes having trouble on the left mean that even the lowest handicap golfer has a real challenge. With the three toughest Par 4s in the last five holes and the 18th the hardest of all, the Course offers a real sting in the tail so Par them if you can!

Consider the 12th, the course's signature hole and a fiendish par 3 of 161 yards, played up a narrow avenue of conifers and other trees to a long sloping green overlooked by the grandeur of the towering red-brick clubhouse and terrace just behind it.

As the last review on FGC is almost 4 and a half years old, I thought it needed an update. This is the finest course in North London that I've seen. At £30, it's much better value than Muswell Hill, Highgate or Hendon. The staff were pleasant although my friend tells me the members can be obtuse. The course is very well kept, wonderfully picturesque and its lure for me is it sheer variety. I played woefully yet really enjoyed the course. The signature 12th hole is frightfully impressive! The 18th par 4 is a gloriously challenging finish. If you play like I did, well, there's a great clubhouse serving fine food and drink to lament afterwards. 7.5/10
