Gathurst Golf Club was established in 1913 as a nine hole course situated in the south of the village. However in 1959 The Ministry if Transport and Civil Aviation advised the members that the M6 motorway was to be constructed through the middle of the golf course.

Thus in 1961 a new 9 hole course and clubhouse was constructed to the west of the motorway. The course has been extended in the last few years to a 12 hole and more recently, in 1995 into a new 18 hole course.

Clubhouse has full facilities including newly furnished locker room and shower facilities.

I am now a member at gathurst golf club and love it there. It is such a social club that the capain will call you and have a chat! There are BBQ's and much more all the time and it is a fantastic course for kids. They have a junior team and junior compotitions and a junior captain that is elected every year by fellows. Ditto adults but adults have two captains (Man and Woman). However the course is rarely busy and there are not too many kids so you can get around easily. There is a clubhouse with a lounge/bar and a meal room where you can have a relaxed meal. It is such a social club that you can become a social member which is where you don't become a golf member but can attend BBQ's etc. and come into the clubhouse. I recommend anyone who plays golf to become a member. You will thoroughly enjoy it!

I played Gathurst on 4th October. It is now a full 18 hole course, although the first 6 holes are relatively new. Its a good course with the most out-of-bounds posts that I've ever seen. The club house and catering were excellent and the hospitality friendly. The 16th,17th 18th holes run alongside the M6 Motorway - don't slice!
