Girvan is a most entertaining course with a challenging 1st 8 holes played 'links' style. Challenging because of the winds and proximity to the beach. The back 10 are played after a very short walk round the clubhouse where 'parkland golf' is enjoyed with some welcome relief from the sea breezes.
Our society, the 'Braidholm Golfing Society' with members of all ages and skills, have been travelling to Girvan since 1994 for the opening of our season every April.
Not the longest course in the area, but reasonably, priced, and a challenge on every hole.
Feature holes are the 1st, with the sea in your left ear and the car park in your right! The17th, where a drive up the hill towards the caravan park will reward the brave ones with a chip and run for par, and punish the lay-up players with a blind shot to a green very near the perimeter fence.
Lovely little 18th par 3 from an elevated tee, leaves the short walk back to the clubhouse, where the hospitality is hard to beat.
