the two reviews that said the course is hilly ARE CORRECT. however my main moan is that the greens are about as receptive as a supermarket car park and no matter how high you hit your approach or how soft you get the ball to land it WILL NOT sit down on the green. this is an acceptable and often expected feature of links golf but it is not acceptable in a course that describes itself as part heathland part parkland. overall the course isnt bad but would be much improved and dare i say it a good course if they could sort out those rock hard greens

Having played the course many times, can I just say that the two previous reviews give a completely false picture of the course. The first hole has one uphill shot. The second and third are as level as a billiard table. The fourth has another single or at the most 2 uphill shots.
The 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th.9th and 10th are all on the flat.
The 11th is flat after the drive as is the 12th.
The 13th, is a par 3 with an elevated tee.
The 14th has a sloping to the right fairway.
The 15th, 16th and 17th all have gentle downhill slopes and the 18th is again a par three from an elevated tee.
It is by far the most interesting course in North Staffordshire with some wonderful panoramic views of the Derbyshire hills, and all the holes are challenging for the average golfer.

A testing course, the first five holes are all uphill. Once you're actually at the top of the course it is easy walking, but usually very windy , the wind seems to come from every direction at once. On the way back down there are two particularly difficult holes, especially if you have a slice. Both are on the side of the hill, throwing every thing to the right. The new management of the club have advertised it as 'the best golf course in Stoke-on-Trent'- this it definitely IS NOT. But that said it you do get a good welcome, and just recently they have acquired a couple of buggies(they flatten out the hill a bit).
