Hanbury Manor is a course of 2 halves, and logically so as the outward 9 were added recently to the original 9 hole course at the front of the hotel. I have played here many times but have never seemed to score particularly well, no matter how I play. I put this down to the length of the course and not just tee to green. Its a real hike round and a
buggy is strongly advised if you're not playing in winter. Add the undulations to the 100 yard walk between holes and you've got a very physically demanding course.Hence the reason my rounds always start falling apart around the 14th - just as you reach the most challenging part of the course. The 13th and 17th are 2 particlarly good holes, both set around the lake thats the main feature of the back 9. The 13th requires a good drive to a generous fairway and an aproach to a green surrounded by three sides with water. The 17th is an excellent par 5. For some reason I always seem to hit my biggest drive of the round on this hole putting me in range of the green in 2. This is a problem
because theres a big lake that must be carried with your second which you'll be playing, at best, with a very long iron, or more likely fairway wood. The last 3 times I've played this hole I've finnished with a BLOB after trying for the green in 2 and I resolve to lay up next time. That just leaves the 18th where you drive back over the same lake.
If your playing off white tees this is a 180 yard carry and will test the nerve of higher handicappers.
I would describe Hanbury as a very good 'hotel' course. Its not somewhere I'd like to play week in week out - its just too darn long!

Marriott Hanbury Manor is the greatest golf course I have ever played. The hotel is magnificent, in my opinion it must be London's favourite Country Club!! The staff are attentive and efficient and since the refurbishment last year the luxury of the Manor House had really put Hanbury Manor on the international resort scene!!
    A must.
