I played the front 9 here as a beginner and found it quite enjoyable. The atmosphere was welcoming and the golfers were of varied standards so we let a few chaps pass us at the tees of holes. I hope you enjoy as we certainly did- and dont forget to follow it up with a few chilled beers, must dash!!

Despite the majority of the previous reviews, I have to say that my workplace colleagues and I find Hazelwood a pleasant place to play after work in the Spring and late Summer. The greens are usually in good condition, although it is not a long-hitter's course. As a pay-and-play venue it is excellent value at £7 for nine holes.
What should be brought to everyone's attention is that Chelsea Village have submitted a planning application to demolish this course and driving range so that the Football Team can train there, (and don't they need it). Whatever your views about the course this is a very unwelcome approach. The timing is very cynical as it was only formally made just before Christmas, and all objections have to be in to Spelthorne Council by the 8th January 2001.

I agree to some extent with the above comments, but we must remember that it was designed as a family course, and the layout is as good as they could get it with the space that they had provided. I like Hazelwood Sunbury. Not as a serious challenge, but as a nice place to practice and polish my skills. I have found it to be a pleasant place, and not as badly maintained as some might say, however it is only an exagerated pitch and put and should not be visited in hope of a challenging round, largely due to inexperienced grounds keeping.

I don't know how the EGU gave it golf course status and an SSS. As well as being rubbish, the holes are so close together that it is quite frankly dangerous!
The bunkers were not raked on the Sunday afternoon we played. The greens were covered with pitch marks and were slow and generally uneven. The cups didn't look as if they had been changed for a week.
Players were not told which tees to use. Some were teeing off the markers in front of the ladies, presumably for juniors whereas we were playing off the back markers. Some par 4 holes were so short that this turned them into par 3s and made them dangerous. Even though we played from the back tees the only full approach shots we had to play were to the longer of the two par 3s, the par 5 and one of the par 4s.
The driving range net runs adjacent to the course, and is not high enough, therefore balls regularly pepper two greens and a tee.
The previous green is often so close to the next tee that your partner needs to keep look out as you play your tee shot. The rough that separates the fairways is less than the width of the fairways themselves and often players play down the wrong fairway to avoid a hazard. The rough itself is a mixture of tufts and mud rather than thick grass making a short shot a complete lottery.
There was no starter or ranger therefore it took well over 2 hours to play 9 holes of a slightly exaggerated pitch and putt. From Hazelwood's highest point to its lowest is approximately 3 feet! They have managed to fit 9 holes in an area measuring perhaps 550 yards X 300 yards.

I agree Mr McGuiness, what a tedious golf course! This course is not even worth the price for eighteen holes which they ask.
