A pleasant parkland course, about 3 miles south of Gatwick airport. The basic layout of the course has not altered significantly since it opened in 1927. Whilst the length of just over 6,300 yards is modest by modern standards, it is deceptively difficult, particularly the back nine. Many fine golfers learned to play here, including several amateurs
who went on to achieve international honours, and former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallagher was assistant professional at the club in his youth.
The club has hosted many prestigious events, including the Sussex Amateur Championship in 1992 and numerous professional events.
The course has many fine, mature trees, which have recently been supplemented by a major programme of new tree planting. The fairways and greens are presently in excellent condition, though the bunkers are in need of attention which it is understood is planned to be dealt with later this year as part of several improvements to the course.
Two notes of caution: the course is very busy during the summer months due to its popularity with golfing societies, so always phone first to avoid disappointment, and beware the winter months as the underlying soil is clay so the course can get very wet.
