I played this course on a gloriously sunny day, drying out the greens and fairways, which gave us a reasonably tough test on our first outing to The King Jamees VI. Our party of 21 included a wide variety of ability and experience and this course offered just about everything you could ask for in a days golf. Located on an island in the middle of the river Tay, getting to this course is pretty unusual in that you have a scenic walk over the Tay and along its banks before reaching the club house. The journey back in the dark however is a little more tricky, so be careful! The course is a real treat. Set out as parkland and surrounded by water may sound like a nightmare, but you hardly remember your on an island, but for a couple of holes. The fairways are reasonably foregiving, scattered with well positioned bunkers and trees to catch out all level of player. The greens are slick and hard to stop on without the aid of a loft wedge, so their's plenty to think about. The overall quality was excellent and I was impressed by the course condition and facilities. Signature holes, 5th par 3. Surrounded by bunkers, with water on the left. A cracker! 8th, par 5, allows you to open up your shoulders for a big drive and demanding 2nd into a testing green. I'd strongly recommend this course to anyone, whatever their ability. It will test all aspects of your game and not take it out of your legs, as the difference between highest and lowest points on the course is 15ft! It has it all, and is set in a beautiful part of the country. We will definitely be back this year at some point and urge you to give it a try, your in for a real treat.

Even getting to this course is interesting as its set on an island in the middle of the Tay and the golfers route to the course is by way of a footpath along side the bridge which carries the main railway line from Perth to Dundee. The course itself is very flat the highest point can only be about 10 feet above the lowest point. Although flat or perhaps because its so flat clubbing can be a problem. The condition of the course when I played it was first class the greens being near perfect - it is however a summer/autumn course as the pictures in the clubhouse testify to some high winter and spring floods which appear to cover the entire course. This course its most certainly worth a visit for its uniqueness and setting alone.

Very flat golf course but in very good condition with fast greens also has a few testing holes but a good course for golfers of all standards.
