The 18th is one of the best finishing holes in the area, a par 4 with elevated tees bring you high up to survey the land ahead, up in the distance the clubhouse stands proud but challenging, nestled just behind a well protected elevated green. The land falls away from the tee, through tall oaks either side, focusing the mind to the task ahead. Down through a dip and then up towards the green. The slope gathers high drives and stops them short, leaving a long shot, often as much as a 3 iron or a 3 wood in the breeze if you are to take on the green large bunkers flank the green on either side with a thin slice to run the ball through on the longer shots. A great drive will be rewarded by a loftier shot to the green, a large green split by a ridge, but beware of running through, the journey back slopes back to the bunkers at the front.
From there a fine reward is the elevated view over the course you have just played, the view may look open but my betting is that the hearty handshakes from your playing partners will be hemmed with relief and the chance to retire to the clubhouse, enjoy its great showers with dishplate sprinkler heads and then a welcoming brew in the clubhouse.
