Largs Golf Club is a mixed parkland / woodland course. Uniquely situated between Kelburn Castle and the shore, it has magnificent views of the Firth of Clyde with scenic views of the isles of Cumbrae, Bute and Arran. One can also appreciate the view of the peak of Arran's Goat Fell and the domineering landscape of the 'Sleeping Warrior'.

The current 18 hole course dates back to the decision, in 1953, of the Earl of Glasgow to allow the golf club to extend onto the parkland on the south side of the driveway leading to the castle. In the same year the club opened a new clubhouse. The club had previously played nine holes o the north side of the drive . In the 1980's the present Earl (honorary president) sold the course to the club. Prior to moving to Kelburn in 1893, the club existed for two years at Routenburn now incorporated as part of Routenburn Golf Club's 18 hole course, in the northern part of Largs. The Largs Golf Club's expansion saw irrigation being laid in 1962, major improvements to the course in the late 1960s, and the second phase of a new clubhouse in 1969. The clubhouse was refurbished in time for the 1991 centenary.

18-hole parkland course, situated in the west of Scotland on the Firth of Clyde. The Club has a well stocked proshop and an excellent clubhouse with lounge bar facilities.

Course Details

Course Name: Largs Holes: 18 Yardage: 5707 SSS: 69
The course is enduringly popular with visitors, who return year after year. While not playing form the yellow tees, it needs a lot of though and positional play usually pays dividends. Sam Torrance, who was a junior member in 1985, was made an honorary member in 1985. The course is unusual in that it is situated right on coast, it is definitely of an inland type with typical parkland features of lush fairways, winding burns and tree-lined doglegs.
From the yellow tees 5707 yards, par 68, SSS 69.
From the ladies tees 5450 yards, par73, SSS 73

I have played this course twice in the last week and will definately become a member here. the green problem that people talk of from 10 years ago has dissapeared. the greens run extremely fast and play more like the greens abroad. the fairways tend to be quite forgiving but still a good challenge.great course for the money and i would suggest anyone who is playing the ayrshire clubs to give it a go and the scenary is second to none.

All in all Largs is a very good course, although pin positions don't vary as much as I would like and can get a little boring but in terms of a challenge. It provides even the best golfers with a stern test, breaking par is a feet by any-ones standards. Although I don't know that much about golf I know the condition was affected last year and meant that I have given up the game, as I got sick of the winter greens. But with news that the course is close to perfection again, I am tempted to look out the old staffs again for a wee hit, and so should you!!!!! Cos' believe me Largs Golf Club at its best is up their with the top parkland courses in Scotland if not Britain!!!!

Largs Golf Club is a class golf course through and through, granted there were the incidents involving several greens (12 in fact). It should be pointed out that the greens are on the way back to becoming the great greens we all (members) used to love to play on. There are many testing holes for example the long par 4, 3rd hole which requires a good drive if you are going to even contemplate reaching the green in two. The burn right at the front of the green may look easy to clear, but take it from me, it takes a good shot to clear the burn and hold the green. All in all its a course I am very happy to be involved with and I think anybody who visits the course will appreciate just what I am saying.

Largs GC provides an ideal setting for some scenic and rewarding parkland golf. With an established reputation and some testing holes, this well-balanced layout offers an interesting and challenging experience to golfers across the broad spectrum of enthusiasm and ability.
Though currently recovering from a sad (and admittedly partial) case of greens damage during the early part of 1998, the course and facilities have been subject to some upgrading and development over the past year, most of it making for a well-rounded golfing day out. When the weather improves and thoughts turn to some enjoyable golf with great views, Largs GC could be worth a visit.
