Course Details

Course Name: Leicestershire Holes: 18 Yardage: 6330 SSS: 70
Leicester Golf Club was established in 1891 and originally had a 9 hole course which was designed with the assistance of the first professional G. Smith. The course was further extended to an 18 hole in 1899 and again in 1910 with the help of and design James Braid, and in 1936 Charles Mackenzie redesigned the course. The present course was designed by CK Cotton in 1967, as some of the holes were lost in the War, however the 7th hole is the only one which dates back to the 19thcentury. The Evington Brook forms a significant feature coming into play on the 5th and the 11th.

The Leicestershire is set to the East of the city of Leicester and is fun to play. It has the unusual characteristic of not having any par 5 holes, but don't let that fool you. This is not a short golf course, the lack of par 5's makes it difficult to 'catch up' should you fall foul of some of the excellent holes the golf course had to offer.
The 1st requires a long shot down the left side of the fairway to open up the approach to the green, several ditches and hidden ponds lie to catch the unwary so take a course planner to see where they have hidden them!! Greens were soft and receptive,
reasonably quick, they had just been re-laid when I played the course in Autumn 1999 and were still bedding down, however they should be excellent this year.
I can't say one hole stood out for me, but many challenges make for an enjoyable day. Bring your best short game for good scoring.
The clubhouse offered an excellent view over the course from its first floor bar and
restaurant, food was fair and the service good.
The pro is very amiable and would chat all day if Id let him, a nice day out.
    Course 6/10 Food /Clubhouse 5/10
