On the far side of the island from the ferry port of Brodick. Drive across island doesn't take too long and has wonderful views. This is fairly new course although the first hole looks far older. What a good openner with main road on left and sea on right - drive it straight! A little walk up the road and you reach the 2ns (par 3)but turn round 180 degrees and look at the Mull of Kintyre for a while. Although lacking a little maturity this course is well worth visit with a day ticket @ £16 (April 2010) being excellent value. Tea room was good also.

MY 9 YEAR OLD SON AND I PLAYED 18 HOLES DURING OUR SUMMER HOLIDAY ON ARRAN. THE VIEWS ARE WONDERFUL AND THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT IN THE CUTE WOODEN CLUBHOUSE/TEAROOM. I FOUND THE COURSE TO BE IDEAL FOR MYSELF AND MY SON WHO IS JUST LEARNING THE GAME AND WHO WILL BE JOINING MY OWN COURSE AS A JUNIOR IN APRIL 05. WE WILL BE BACK OVER THE CLYDE FROM GLASGOW FOR A EASTER HOLIDAY ON ARRAN AND WILL DEF BE VISITING MACHRIE AGAIN.

I spent many happy childhood holidays on Arran and have played this course more times than I can remember and although I have played many championship courses and am now a member of a highly regarded course the simple pleasures and stunning landscapes of this wee 9 holer will always have me coming back for more. Every hole is fun and unique. At the first avoiding the road on one side of the fairway and the beach on the other side is a testing start. Followed by "the hummocks", a blind par 3 and not easy to stop your tee shot on the green. Finishing with the road hole. Should I play for position or welly the ball and hope for the best.
And of course tea and a bacon role in the tea room to finish while we carry out the post mortem of the match.....
