My wife and I have never played 2 rounds of golf on the same day. We did at Macrihanish. We were absolutely stuffed, but it was the highlight of 3 weeks golfing in Ireland and Scotland.
Its a true "links" course with all the demands of wind, blind tee shots, no trees, long wispy rough and bumps and hollows. Its truly beautiful - we had a perfect, fine day - but I can imagine it would be a real tiger on the poor weather day.
This is a "must do" course for anybody who wants to experience the best links golf in a maginificent area of scotland.
We stayed at Ardell house, and highly recomend it. If you can book it - get the upstairs front double room overlooking the course.
    Good luck!

Last week I played this course and it was absolutely fantastic. I've played at Troon and Muirfield and this is easily in their class. Links golf personified and an absolute pleasure to play. I managed to knock it round in a respectable 76 too!

Machrihanish, simply as good as golf gets. Thinks seriously however before setting out if the wind blows; are you man enough? Have you plenty of re-loads?
I'm off for my third round this year next week, even though it's nearly a six-hour drive! Take the time and make the effort this really is a gem, not a tight links course by any means but course planning is the watchword, and brute strength is a waste of time.
    Go there and enjoy.

A hard although fair test of golf when the weather is good which means a small breeze of around 30 mph. if you can hit the ball straight you have half a chance.Best 1st hole in the world where position of drive can mean a difference of 4 to 5 clubs. Excellent price to play , good well stocked pro shop reasonable clubhouse facilities which could be improved, friendly and helpful staff. All in all a gem of a course.

As a passionate links player who annually crosses the pond to play real golf, the Machrihanish course epitomizes all things that represent the game. A true test, that is fair and wonderful scenery in a truly beautiful part of Scotland. A must course to play which ranks as one of my three most favourite - along with Lahinch and Connemara in Ireland. We look forward to Machrihanish in September 2000.

I first of Machrihanish from one of the publishers of the Strokesaver course guides. He was right, it is a most remarkable golf course. The good thing is that this course will never be ruined or overrun due to its remote location and I could not be happier.
Makes many of the courses on the Open rota seem down right boring now that I think about it. I have made seven golf trips to Scotland and played over 20 of the best and often hidden courses and this is one my top 3 if not No. 1.

Machrihanish might be in a remote part of the UK but you will not hesitate to return once you have enjoyed the most sublime golfing experience. The course layout, superb contoured fairways and greens are only surpassed by the hospitality of the members.

A gem on the south west coast of Scotland. One of the finest opening holes in golf, a dog leg left 423 yards long par 4, with a risk all or play safe drive over Machrihanish Bay. Front 9 superb links golf, second nine almost the feel of an inland course.

I am a country member at Machrihanish and have been so for several years. For those who love pure golf, this is the place. Great people and a great golf course. Designed by old Tom Morris in 1876, Machrihanish has a pedigree that rivals the better known Scottish courses like Dornoch or Carnoustie.
But it's difference is unique- somewhat due to its remote location on the Mull of Kintyre - the long arm of Scotland jutting out into the Irish Sea. Nowhere in Scotland will you find the magnificent views of the islands of Islay, Gigha or looking across the Irish Sea at Northern Ireland.
And what a golf course with no two holes the same and always in great condition. But the best part of Machrihanish is the people. Being off the beaten track makes the members both very willing and proud to share this world class linkscourse with those who make the trek. Golf is both a course and the people who play it- you won't be disappointed with either at Machrinanish.

Machrihanish golf course, Campbeltown. Links course, 23 pounds. Excellent course well worth the drive down on Kintyre peninsula. Anyone with 30 or lower handicap will enjoy this fantastic course.
