Mapperley golf course is set into the side of a hill. There are many blind shots and fairways that slope in all directions. Accuracy is more important than distance and a well placed shot taking the slopes and borrows into account is rewarded.
Although golf buggies are now available the vast majority of players walk and few even bother with a trolley. Reasonable fitness is an advantage.
