A top course with challenging holes and a superbly re-furbished pro-shop with friendly staff. The front nine is challenging but easy going but the back nine is a real mountain to conquer (literally!!!) out of ten points I'd give it 9.

Fashioned out of rough moorland on the upper slopes of the Pennines, Marsden is a test of stamina as well as golf. This nine hole course played twice and sometimes from different tee positions totals 5702 yards with a par of 68.The holes have been landscaped into the undulating moor-lands which means that there is little latitude for straying off the fairways before you reach the natural deep and coarse rough.
Marsden golfers share their course with sheep and wildlife, neither of which is as problematic as the wind which almost invariably blows at this altitude and can prevent you reaching some of the par 3 holes from the tee, three of which are in excess of 200 yards long. Most of the holes involve ascending or descending the hillside slopes and several holes have fairways which cross one another so you need to be alert to other golfers.
Five par 4 holes are 400 yards or more long whilst seven are only around the 300 yard mark giving extremes of relatively easy and quite demanding holes.
Given the location and altitude, the greens are in good condition although I found the pace to vary from one to another. I was fortunate enough to play the course in the height of summer and winter golfers at Marsden will clearly be of hardy stock.
