Mottram Hall Golf Course is set in an beautiful parkland. Both loops of the outward and inward nine of this Championship course return to the clubhouse which offers everything the golfer requires from light meals and refreshments, to club and buggy hire or even a Mottram Hall shirt embroidered with your name.

| Our Par 72 championship golf course was designed by international golf course designer Dave Thomas. The first 9 holes are set in attractive parkland and the other in the more demanding woodland, thus creating a course that is an extension of the surrounding landscape and for all standards of golfer to play and enjoy. First nine quite comfortable, second nine tight and a hard grind, if you suffer from a medium slice, expect to lose 10-12 balls as the rough is unforgiving. I have just played Mottram Hall and found it one of the best golf courses I have played.
As an average length 6 handicapper the course provides a fair test with fantastic back 9 making you want to book another 18 as soon as possible.
The highlight must be the 17th, as a drive of 255 yards is needed to get to the middle of the fairway where a 5 wood or perhaps 3 iron to a smallish green completes a great right dog leg par 4 hole.
The course has very punitive rough and a shot off line means a reload is essential
The higher handicaps should make sure they have enough golf balls with them.

In some ways the course at Mottram Hall is reminiscent of the Hunting Course at Slaley Hall in Northumberland, which happens to be another Dave Thomas design, (that world renowned Welsh ex-Ryder Cup player who is sometimes mistaken for an Englishman by other course reviewers).
The similarities are in the fact that both courses have nine holes set in woodland, and the other nine in more open countryside. Certainly a challenge for the course designer.
The most memorable holes at Mottram Hall are all on the back nine in my opinion. These include off the yellow tees,
Tenth - 545 yd par 5, dog-legged to the right with different elevations.
Twelfth - 405 yd par 4, similar to the Tenth.
Thirteenth - 453 yd par 4, uphill and definitely stroke index one!
Seventeenth - 445 yd par 4, with a tricky positional drive followed by a very precise approach to an elevated green.
I played this course twice on consecutive days with my brother-in-law in late October 2001, whilst staying at the hotel. Although both of us are low single figure handicap players, we found the going extremely tough due to the constant rain and the sodden fairways. Both of us in fact struggled to break eighty!
It would be interesting to return in high summer when the place was dry.
One drawback! Watch out for the buggy driving maniacs who haven't got a clue about how to behave on a golf course.
