Course Details

Course Name: Hawkshill Holes: 18 Yardage: 6623 SSS: 74
Designed by Dave Thomas, the Hawkshill course is one of the toughest at all the courses in the are. With water hazards coming into play on no fewer than seven holes, mature silver birch pine trees lining the strategically bunkered fairways and greens, the Hawkshill course is already acknowledged as one of the fine tests of golf in Scotland.

For an appreciation and independent view of this course please see golfer reviews.

Course Name: Swailend Holes: 18 Yardage: 6388 SSS: 71
Another Dave Thomas design, whilst not as mentally challenging as the Hawkshill, it nevertheless provides a test all of its own with some well positioned bunkering and testing greens, constructed on rolling countryside where some 26,000 trees have been planted.

A number of work colleagues and I recently booked an outing at Newmachar Golf course, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Though a number of us were experienced golfers there where a few who had never played golf before and the welcome they received from the clerk of the course was second to none.
Though the Hawkshill course is very challenging and quite daunting to even the experienced amateurs, this does not deflect it from the fact that though this course is a challenge it is still extremly enjoyable.
The Swailend course is more forgiving yet still a challenge with strategically placed bunkers and lightning fast greens. This is a must for all levels of players.
Newmachar golf club is a sparkling gem in the golfing world not just because of its two fantastic well cared for courses, but also because of its hospitality to visitors. Only one word can describe Newmachar golf club and its staff. Outstanding!

This has to be one of best courses I have visited, every hole presents a mental challenge - you cannot just go on to the tee with your driver even on the par fives a course where accuracy is paramount. The scenery is tremendous with many of the holes carved through mature trees. Well worth a visit.
