i came down to the area to visit relatives and came to play the 9 hole course. at £12 for 9 holes is a bit to steep. i am a member off a far more superier course in yorkshire who charge only £11.40 around for 18 holes. sorry but not value for money.

I have played this course about 6 times, and it plays differently each time. A nice mix of hole and a well maintained course. It can be tricky finding your ball after your first shot, as its next to the range and there are so many loose balls around it's not true, but that appart a great 9 holes, especially if (like me) you're fairly new to the game.

We played the woodland course in Mid-November and the condition of the course was generally quite good apart from a few areas that were very soggy and the major downside of the course, the greens. They were all very bubbly and holing a 3 footer was a lottery. The greens aside the layout of this course was superb with many holes completely tree lined. The front 9 was well layed out and straight hitting is the only option with the 2 pars 3's being particularly good holes.. The best holes though are 10 to 13 which are based around a small hill. I would be very impressed by anyone reaching the 10th in 2 since it is a dog-legged 520 yard hole which is all uphill from the dog-leg. We found that the last 5 holes played much shorter than the yardage on the card with the last 3 holes being my least favourite on the course. Also, the par 3's were all played off mats. Overall not a bad course but it was very, very slow and £30 seemed a bit steep for basically an above average pay and play course in average condition.

But for the lack of a guide or map, this is an excellent course. Tight fairways and lush greens are made all the more difficult by the abundance of doglegs (strangely all to the right it seems!). Not the longest course you'll play, but the 570 yd par 5 17th is a joy to play with a straight drive being aided by a nice downhill run towards the green more than makes up for the short (260yd) par 4 the hole before. The course is in a beautiful setting, lined with pine trees only let down by the crossing electricity pylons and associated cables. Modern clubhouse with nice, clean showers and changing rooms and a small, and well-stocked bar. We played the 9-hole village course in the morning and then the Woodland in the afternoon- fuelled by great Bacon sarnies in the morning and Ploughman's lunch.
