A great deal of hard work by the club's greenkeepers has been performed during the winter months to transform the latest purchase of land into the five holes needed to make Onneley a full-size 18-hole course. Greens have been turfed, tees constructed and the seed sown. Careful nurturing over the next 12 months should see the full course ready for play in May 2005.

(Royal) Onneley - as many of those fortunate to have trodden it's sacred turf would describe it, was historically a nine hole course which was famous for sending many a brash long-hitting golfer from surrounding courses (who would turn up talking of returning a course record, from a 'pitch and putt' length course) home with their tail firmly between their legs!
Having glanced at the card the course does seem fairly innocuous, but once you go out and experience the delightfully constructed 9, each hole fraught with danger, you will realise it is certainly a track which will reward the cerebral golfer rather than the power-hitter.
If you enjoy pitting your wits against a tight, tricky and very attractive course then Onneley will provide you with an enormously enjoyable day out, but remember 'pride comes before a fall' so don't expect a career best score just because of it's length. If on the other hand you believe a course has to be over 7000 yards to be a challenge and just reach for your driver on every tee, don't bother; to be honest you won't understand the intricate subtlety of the course and you'll go home thinking it was 'nothing outstanding' - you'll probably even attribute your very below par (metaphorically)! score to a bad day!
It's worth remembering that David Gilford, one of the straightest hitters on
the tour learned his trade here.
Onneley is also as friendly a club as you'll find anywhere, and next year there will be 5 new holes for you to try out (even including a par 5 for heavens sake....what will the critics say!!)
Come and see Onneley you'll definitely get a warm reception from the members,
the course may not be so forgiving!!!
