I personally have played Penn on several occasions, finding both the pro shop and the members very warm. The course was in great condition.
It however is not the hardest course in the Midlands, by a long way. A good test of golf Yes!

I have just been reading through the comments regarding Penn Golf Club.
Whilst I appreciate that many of these views are considerablty dated, I would like to take this opportunity to give a more factual view.
Golf was first played on Penn Common in 1893, the year after the South Staffordshire Golf Club was formed. Over the years Penn have acquired not only the freehold of the course from the Duke of Sutherland, but all of the grazing rights. Safe to say that the recent acquisition of the last of the grazing rights means that cattle no longer roam the course.
This has enabled Course Manager Paul Mills and his greens staff to make significant improvements to what was already a fine course. Over the years specimen trees have been planted to supplement nature’s bountiful supply of birch, oak and other deciduous varieties, while the 9th tee is protected by carefully planted conifers. Lush fairways now complement the slick greens for which Penn has always been renowned, and carefully placed bunkering will test any golfer’s ability to manage their way around the course.
We are actively working with the owners of the stables that border the course and we are currently working with them to improve the horse tracks to benefit both horesriders and golfers alike.

if you actuallly took the time to play the course and get to know the members you wudn;t be saying that we dont care bout the club.
If you had seen sum of the damage that that man has done to the course you would not be defending ESPECHIALLY if you are a true golfer!!
That course is the most challenging in the west midlands and the members are cracking, our juniour team got to the national final mathc play tournement.
Slag the cows and farmer off as much as u want but dont slag the club and members off until u know them

Why are the golfers on Penn Common such a friendly bunch (not) whats their problem, they dislike anything to do with the land they choose to play on, they shout and verbally abuse horse riders, walkers, commoners who all have more right on the common than they do, and apart from that they can't stand each other, what a lovely bunch of fellows who come to darken our doorstep.

How and why have this club been allowed to bully the public and commoners and turn such a delightful common into a glorified park!!

The Golf course has been there since 1904. You must be really old if you've seen the place 'turn' into anything. I think the common is imaculate and this can only be an outcome of the hard work put into maintaining it by the golf club.

I wouldn't even consider this bunch of arrogant things (for want of another word) to be advertised on my web site, they have done nothing but bully the local farmer (who has Commoners Rights, over the entire commoner including tees greens and fairways)
tweek the local residents, abuse the general public and scared the manure out of the horse riders not to mention the horses
    A big boo to PGC

But PGC provides adequate grazing land for the farmer. Which is closer to his home. Why then does he guide his cattle all the way to the other side of the course if not to intentionally vandalise it. In the hundred years the course has been situated on the common, this has nevr been a problem in the past. He does not have the right to graze his cattle on the greens and the fairways, which incidently would provide rubbish grazing ground anyway. Why bother?
