played there in awful weather, and was amazed that the greens were still lightning fast. but its not much fun not being able to see where you are driving to.

I played this James Braid design; don't think it has changed dramatically from the early days, in mid-June this past Summer, with two kind members, Simon ,and Michael. The opener is a requisite par four, which offers generous landing area and an elevated, though receptive green. The second tee shot is a deliriously blind drive into some fine dunesland. This is why I, personally, crave links golf. The opportunity to play in uncharted territory, where randomness, and unpredictability are close companions. The turf was quite firm, and the greens, in fine condition, nicely swift! The back nine really gets the juices flowing; fourteen is easily one of my favourite par fours in the UK.
My only regret is that I am not a member of this welcoming links sited so beautifully by the sea in Cornwall. The lesson is this: stay and play for two or three days, rather than hurrying to play all the links on the list!

We as a society always play this course every May.
Its worth the money, for the spectacular views over Perranporth beach alone.
The sun always shines, the skylarks twitter, everything is wonderful, except that you have to play golf.
The greens are lightening fast and well contoured, there are seven or eight blind tee shots, you fire the ball straight over the black and white poles, go over the dune and find a narrow fairway, sometimes you even find your ball.
Even better is when the sea mist comes in and you have not a clue where you are. A circuitous walk, back to the welcoming clubhouse the only option.
This is without doubt one of the best courses I have played, and to be recommended particularly from April to June.

Being a middle England man I think this course encapsulated for me most of what I expect from links golf. Superb views (over Perranporth Bay), plenty of grass dunes giving blind shots galore, some tough walking up hill and down dale and of course.... WIND !
With some inland courses you can conceivably turn up and play for the first time and with concentration, commonness and a bit of luck, put a reasonable round together. Not this baby ! This is a course you need to know. My advice would be to play it on consecutive days if you can. The first round should be your real mission. The only disappointment when I played there last September was the greens. I had been warned to expect fast greens, but in places they were not much more than dust which took the edge off what was otherwise an enjoyable round. Green fees were reasonable in the midweek, which in retrospect I thought could have been adjusted a little given the above. Worth a visit though.
