Update on the development of our extension to our golf course from
Brian Miller:- Captain of Pumpherston Golf Club. brian.m.miller@bt.com

Work is planned to start in the first week in April ' 99, with a completion date of March/April, 2001(including new Clubhouse and Greenkeeping facilities). This provides Pumpherston with an 18 hole Golf Course measuring 6000yards long and a par of 70. In other words a pleasant stroll but still offering a challenge to any player. There will be a practice range measuring over 300yards long, practice pitching area and practice putting green. A club Professional will be appointed nearer the date of opening. There will be many challenging holes to play including five holes which will require a carry over water to the green.

Pumpherston is a very challenging course with several tricky holes. The course is very picturesque, with several signature holes. The stand out hole are the 2nd, a very tough Par 4, the 13th, a beautiful Par 3 with water and sand, the 16th (which is more like the 17th on TPC Sawgrass) and the two par 5's at the end provide a good ending.
All in all, a very enjoyable course which offers beautiful sights and holes and equally challenging golf!!

I have played this course on a number of occasions now and it is indeed a challenging course. On a nice day you can get round happily but if there is any kind of breeze it makes it so much more difficult. It has not 1 but 4 signature holes, 2nd, 9th,16th and 18th.
The 2nd is a dog leg to the right and your 2nd shot is over water to a small undulating green. the 9th is a straight par 4 with bunkers exactly wher you drive too and again your 2nd is over water.the 16th is a great hole a short par 4 surrounded on three sides by water and the 18th is a great par 5 a good drive will give you a decision of either lay up in front of the water or go for the green? you will need to hit your second approx 230 yards to clear the water..In all a cracking course, well designed and the new lay out is fantastic.

This course is a tough challenge for players of all handicaps with tight fairways and small greens. This is a great course that will only get better with the future developments currently in progress. The vast water features and small bunkers surrounding every green add to the beauty of this course. Pumpherston has a great number of enthusiastic junior members, some of which have played for the Lothians and Scotland. The junior league team actually one something last year which is a great achievement. We hope the plan for the new course is a great success.

I'm a member of Pumpherston Golf Club myself as a junior and I feel that this course to anyone who has never played this course before and plays it for the first time will be struggling for a good score.

Woodland course with very tight fairways. Most greens are well surrounded with bunkers and are quite small. 6th hole is very interesting which is surrounded on three side by water. Although this course is very short you have to be quite accurate from the tee. At present it is only 9 holes but there are plans to expand it to 18.
