Course Details

Course Name: Romanby Holes: 18 Yardage: 6663 SSS: 72
The Romanby course was designed by Will Adamson, with greens constructed to USGA specification and large teeing area around 400 square metres in size. Eight holes involve water hazards, either from the river Wiske, which runs north to south through the course, or from one of the two large lakes guarding the second and eleventh greens and the twelfth tee position.

The course not only delights the sense and provides a stimulating challenge for golfers of all abilities. Each hole has a character of its own and contributes to a varied and truly memorable round of golf. However, players should be aware of the false sense of security the gentle early holes can produce. The test of skills heightens as you approach Romanby's own Amen Corner - a trio of challenging holes consisting of the par 3 eleventh over the lake, hole twelve, possibly the longest par 5 you'll ever play, and the par 4, thirteenth, ranked stroke index 1.

The tranquil parkland setting then takes over to calm you into the final stages and the highest point on the course is reached on the fifteenth green. The eighteenth fairway is bisected at around 230 yards by the river Wiske. Leaving you faced with a critical decision; play long, or play safe.

On completion of your round, a warm welcome awaits you in Romanby's popular Clubhouse.

When i first played the course it was excellent and challenging, as my first time on a golf course it was a very difficult course to start on. When i played again it was less challenging but it made me appreciate it more the length of each hole and the brilliant tee off points and excellent conditioned greens made Romanby an outstanding course and truly enjoyable. As a young starter they couldn't have been more helpful in getting me started on the course. The academy course couldn't be better for young players to start on and their driving range is absolutely magnificent to practice on.

The Academy Course at Romanby Golf and Country Club provides a good place to begin and get used to the etiquette of playing for beginners. However the par three course also provides a very good place for seasoned players to refine their short game. The course holds a mixture of both easy and challenging holes including the 1st up a fairly steep inclining fairway with an unsighted green. This course is challenging to the beginner and to those who have been playing for a longer period of time.

One of the best courses that I have played. I have only been playing a short while, however I can say that Romanby is an excellent course. The tees, fairways and greens are all in excellent condition. If you have a slice (like most of us) then the fairways can be good to you, within reason, unlike some courses. The front 9 greens are excellent, however the back 9 tend to have no consistency.
The course has the right mix of good holes, easy holes and a very difficult water hole THE 11TH. It is surrounded by water to the left, the right, the middle. If you can't hit straight then you better take some practice balls you could be there some time. Then after you have lost all confidence the longest hole in Britain needs attention - 2 drives, an iron, a long chip and probably a 2 putt (If your lucky)
Play the course for the 11th and the beautiful newly opened clubhouse and restaurant. Good surroundings - especially in summer. Still developing will go on to be even better. 5 stars

Fantastic, look out for the 11th hole, the signature hole of the course........enjoy! Still only a young course so very forgiving drop outs between new plantings. Will mature into an exceptional course in the coming years.
