I have played Roundhay, on and off for apprx 20 years, and have seen it
develop over that time. Although restricted to nine holes by local
boundaries, it is a compact, pleasant, scenic course with enough about it
to test the beginner or shorter hitter. The course undulates through
woodland, and offers nice views on most holes. The club and local council
have spent money wisely over the years, ensuring that the greens are always
good, and fairways are maintained to a good standard. There are drawbacks
with the nine hole format, in that you have to play the same holes twice,
queues can develop at busy times, and mats have to be used on some tees,
even in summer, due to the amount of foot traffic.
There are some testing holes for us 'infrequent players', such as the
longish second (11th) to an elevated green, the fourth (13th) which is a
true tester, and the ninth (18th) with it's infamous drive through, over,
or more likely into the trees. I also like the short par 3 third (12th),
and the drive from the trees on the sixth (15th).
All in all, a nice little course, but not enough of a test for the low
handicapper or the 'Big Bertha' Brigade.

A relatively easy golf course with the 9th being the most demanding. You half to be accurate hitting through a set of trees and to a medium green which is a nice finish to a beginners course. No need for woods apart from on the 4th which asks you to drive up a long hill to a plateau where the green is situated. Due to it being a 9 hole course, it becomes very buisy with slow beginners holding most of it up. Nice scenery makes this a very interesting course with a few tests but Roundhay is a relatively easy

A relatively easy nine-hole course which would suite beginners to small hitters. Only the 4th hole requires a wood off the tee. The other holes are relatively short.
The 9th hole is the best hole on the course, which requires an accurate tee shot through the trees. The surrounding parkland is quite scenic and wild rabbits can be seen around the course during the summer months. If your in the area and only have time for nine holes it's worth a look. Unfortunately you can only have nine holes in the evenings. Other times you have to pay for 18 and go around twice. Which unfortunately often creates a back-log of golfers and queues are often all too common on the tees. Good for a quick nine holes on a summer's evening.
