After reading the other comments I feel that these do not describe the recent improvements and ongoing good green keeping and course management at the Epping Forest course. This week it was easily possible to play 18 holes after work at 6.30pm on well trimmed fairways and superbly condition greens for a surprisingly cheap green fee compared to other local private venues . The recent rain has improved the fairways and supplemented the normally watered greens and grass tees all year round.

A beautiful course, filled with challenging holes that are finished with difficult greens. A mixture of flat and hilly fairways. one of two royal courses that are public, also it is the oldest course in Essex!Wonderful to play in the winter or summer. This is a couse to play. You can hire buggys or electic/manual trolleys and is so cheap to play at only £8 for a junior, or £16 for an adult. But remeber you have to wear a red outer garment!

Innocuous looking from the main road don't be fooled. Has immense variety and a couple of cracking holes. From open heathland to near claustrophobic woodland the course rises up into the woods back down then up again before finishing with a long par-4 across water to the clubhouse. Only 12 miles from the City, well worth a trip that will test all your skills. Few take this course apart but don't forget a red outergarment...this warns public strollers that there is danger around - you!
