In an area blessed with a fine mix of golf courses Scarcroft is a parkland layout that is often overlooked. The tight first six holes offer a challenging mix of par fours, a reachable par five and a short par three.
Having negotiated this initial challenge the golfer is then allowed to open the shoulders a little with a succession of longer holes all of which boast fine, manicured greens and well-kept fairways.
For me the highlight of the round remains the dog leg par five on the inward half allowing the golfer to shape a fade around the corner to an elevated green before you play in towards the Birkdale-like clubhouse. I have had the pleasure of both playing this course and watching a recent Yorkshire team fixture on it and both times I was impressed with the course and the welcome for visitors.
