Scotscraig was established in 1817. Catering in the Playfair room or Maitland-Dougal Lounge is of particularly high standard. This is a classic links course located near St Andrews. Most of the fairways are lined with large trees or the rugged shrub of gorse. Scotscraig is an Open Championship Qualifying course (next year 2000 Open Qual Scotscraig).
Directions
10miles north of St Andrews. Follow A919/B945 to Tayport or 4miles south east of Dundee over the Tay road bridge, following B945 east to Tayport.

Played a couple of times in the last year, nice golf course but pin positions were shocking both times I played - on slopes, in corners, greenkeeper obviously not trained properly.

This is a fantastic golf course. Links course with a bit of a parkland feel with plenty of trees around. The greens are quality and very fast, the fairways are tight with undulated land and with a lot of holes with out of bounds to the right, players with a nasty slice will be punished. highly reccomemnded course and also very very challenging.

Played this wonderful track in the Spring of 2003. Gorse, great greens, and some unusual terrain make this a MUST. Highly recommended.

If you go to St. Andrews and do not make it to Scotscraig, you will have made a big mistake. Just a short distance, 15-20 minute drive, from St. Andrews, this course is used for qualifying at The Open when it is at St. Andrews. I played with good friends from the Glasgow area and they were equally impressed. I played the first week in April and a couple of more weeks and the greens would have been in much better condition. Having said that, there are a lot of great holes here. The ones that stick out are #7, a Par 4, where you have to think off the tee a bit. You have to choose which side of the fairway to go down as it lengthens on both sides but stops and falls off into the rough in the middle. The approach is tricky, as you cannot feel the wind and the ball is greatly affected in the air. Superb hole. The other is the Par 3 15th. Not long, 163 yards from the visitor tee, but uphill to a tiered green. Make sure you are on the same tier as the pin, or a 3 putt is ensured. Just a fantastic golf hole. As stated, if you have the chance to go, please make the trip to Scotscraig, it will be memorable.

We played this course in late April and had a wonderful time. It is a challenging course and the staff is most friendly. I recommend this highly to anyone visiting the area.

Scotscraig golf club is without doubt one of the most underrated course in Great Britain. It is a mixture of heath parkland and links with particularly fine putting surfaces.
There are some holes which stand out above the rest, with the fourth the finest. A hole where you cannot take diver or you will run out of fairway, you then find yourself with a medium to short iron over wasteland to and tiny elevated green with whins to the left and right and 'ob' through the back.
If this has wetted your appetite you should go and play what is a fantastic test of golf, just remember to take a few sleeves of balls, when its windy you will need them.

I only hope my review will encourage some people go because of it. An excellent course and well worth its status as an open qualifying course. This might be because I am a member and therefore biased but it is true. If you play one of the courses at St. Andrews then it is worth a 15 minute drive to Tayport to play Scotscraig.
