I played the course in September 2001 and was totally impressed with it, well designed, in good nick, wonderful views, hence my reasons for taking our Society there this year. Give it a go you will not be disappointed.

Shirenewton is an excellent course. It it built extremely well as it had good drainage features on the greens and an excellent course manager who at the time was my employer. His name was Michael Weekes. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Shirenewton GC and would like to say that all golfers should try to play the course it is a challenge.
It is a credit to Michael Weekes that the course is still doing so well. I wish to everybody well at the club and hope it will develop even stronger.

I played this course about three years ago (1998) and thought that it had an extremely well thought out layout, although the greens (at that time) were poor and that there were excessive green to tee distances between some holes.
If I remember correctly, the first hole, directly across the access lane from the Clubhouse was a blind par four downhill without too much rough, just the job for opening out the shoulders with a driver. The second - a downhill belt across a stream to the other side of the valley and a wedge in - was a particularly attractive hole. Between this hole and the third was quite a walk. The next was, again, a downhill bash and another downhill approach.
I'm afraid the rest of the round was a bit of a blur (blame old age!), but I do remember an uphill slog towards the middle/end of the round that seemed to take forever.
The clubhouse was quite smart, with a good selection of beers in the bar, food was very good. In all, a positive experience and if I remember correctly, an inexpensive one as well!
