Shiskine Golf Club was established in 1896, and has turned up more than once on lists of the world's best one hundred courses. A classic links layout, Shiskine offers spectacular views west across Kilbrannan Sound to the Kintyre peninsula. During the height of the Cold War, it was a good place to watch U.S. and British submarines returning from patrol.
Besides golf there is a tennis club at Shiskine. No visitor restrictions though advance phoning advised. Small lounge and tea room. Club and trolley hire available.

| The views, excellent fairways and great greens make this century-old course. Authentic links course need not be perfectly manicured, and Shiskine isn't. Seven out of the twelve holes are blind, but the line of play is well marked. The tenth hole is called Paradise, and it could not be more aptly named: No matter which way you turn, the view is spectacular. The setting of its tees can make for a lovely golf shot, too. From a hundred yards up, the ball flies over a splash of gorse bushes, misses the burn, splits the four bunkers and lands right in the middle of the green. At least on a good day that's what it does. Clearly the best track on the island. Brand new clubhouse that serves meals, snacks, and soft drinks. Good pro shop with limited buggies available. Each hole is very different with a number of blind shots. We played 2 x 12 holes in a day with ease and it was good value for money. Even though it was April 2010 the course was neat and tidy. Everyone was very friendly. Highly recommended.

I am a member of Shiskine Golf Club and I think it is one of the most wonderful courses I have ever played. The traditional links flows over the seaside ground off the west coast of Arran, an excellent holiday destination. I am 14 and my family and I come back every year and we play twice every day for two weeks. The amazing thing is: It's always sunny!
Every time I go it is hot and sunny. This course is something special; something for everyone. Play it now!

What a wonderful course. Challenging, yet 12 holes is perfect. Minks cross the fairways, the wind comes up, the rain pummels one, but it's fantastic. Tea after a game and then over to the Blackwaterfoot Hotel. Perfect day!!
The Shiskine Golf Club on the Isle of Aaran envelopes challenging holes and fairways incumbered by the occassional breeze and minks running about the course. 12 holes is entirely entertaining at the same time. My grandfather was a course designer in Canada having trained in engineering at the University of Glasgow. Had he been alive when I played the course, I would have loved to have discussed the terrain, etc with him. Surely he played the little course on the cliffs above the cave where Robert The Bruce 'talked to the spider'!!
