This a terrific course which will test even the low handicap player! I have played the course several times and always found it to be consistently in good condition. The opening hole is a par 4 gentle introduction to start you of. From then onwards the terrain leaves you with ether second or third shots with the ball above the stance, or below. Course management is the only advice one can give to the first time visitor.
The back 9 was said to be easier than the front 9 by my host Barry Cook, but I found it very challenging due to the alignments required to make your shot to the greens pay. Particularly, the thirtieth which always catches me out.
A very friendly Club atmosphere prevails with one of the best reputations for good food that you would find anywhere in the country; highly recommended.

Silkstone has a reasonably demanding front nine holes, however, the back nine is a trifle easy (however, this is currently under re-development). Commencing the course is a demanding par four (which is a lot easier than in yesteryear as a result of the removal of a large oak on the righ hand side of the fairway), followed by an enjoyable string of long and short par fours and a long par three hole. There is a good mixture of both long and short holes on the course, favouring both lower and higher handicap players. Despite the fact that the back nine is easier and shorter than the front nine, it still bears new challenges and has more places to go out of bounds. Although the eighteenth is very short, it is a pleasant way to end a pleasant round of golf, as, if played well, it can result in a morale boosting birdie. Course : 7/10
