After playing most of the courses around staffordshire recently I think that St Thomas's Priory is the pick of the bunch. Challenging holes, picturesque views, a variety of shots are needed on this well defined course. To top the round a welcoming bar at the 19th hole. Well done St Thomas's.

this is a new course but lacks any real character and will need a major planting / reshaping programme to give it that character. that said there are some nice holes on the course the par 3 2nd where the green is way below you while standing on the back tees is very picturesque and the tee shot across the water and through the trees on the last is pressure itself.
however the course is built on the side of a huge hill and some of the holes are just a dead straight slog up and down hill, there are too many blind shots in my opinion and it is rare that you can actually see where the ball finishes.this isnt down to poor play either, i am a decent golfer and play off a handicap of 5.
the green fee is unjustifiably high, you would be much better advised to go and play at beaudesert golf club which is just 4 or 5 miles away and is a top notch mature heathland course carved out of the trees which form cannock chase, this course hosts the qualifiers for the open and is simply superb.

Apologies for the mistake, but the hole with the 'narrow 3 tier green,' is the 8th not the 4th as previously quoted.

If you want a course that will challenge all handicaps, then this is the one. Several very tough holes, including the 4th with a narrow 3 tier green, the 10th with 2 blind shots and the 18th with a very psychological tee shot over water / between trees which can ruin a good round in one hole. The green keeper does a good job with consistent green speeds and challenging pin positions. Stays open all year due to the fact that it just does not get wet, I have played this course in the middle of winter and used proper tees and greens. Definitely worth a try if your in the area.

My name is LUCKY LES I have been a member here for two years. Nearly every member here has a nickname. It is almost mandatory. It is a nice course with interesting holes, lush fairways, tough rough, new bunkers with more planned. Best green keeper for miles (greens will be like lightening in a few weeks).

If you want a course, which is open 12 months of the year, this just doesn't suffer from flooding. Young course but maturing all the time. New greenkeeper is doing a grand job. Fantastic finishing hole and very tough 10th hole stroke index 1 par 4, which can be two blind shots to reach the green over two hills.

Some of thesereviews are a bit fluffy and posted by members in self promotion. This is a very difficult course for 3 reasons. The fairways do not take a blade without far too much divot being taken as the top portion of the grass is hill/meadow grass. Secondly there are too many blind shots without a planner and some are just hits up a hill for half an hour. The deadlog left 4th is more like crazy golf, you either have to just pitch 50 yards and it will still then roll down the hill to the rough, or you can hit over the trees on the left needing to get to 100 feet within 30 feet of the trees starting,ie a rocket launcher club. They need definition as to what is rough and what is fairway. Have a go by all means but be prepared for an exhausting day out, take lots of balls, and if you dont like someone particularly, take them with you

Hi, Thanks for the comments however I think you must have had a bad day as the course has and is still being improved constantly. Course planners are also available and yes the course is challenging which in itself creates enjoyment. Visit the club again and see for yourself the improvements that we are continuing to make. The facilities Hawkesyard Estate has to offer are far superior to that of any other location we have worked in previously, and the structure delivered by the EGPI from this location has certainly shown in the boys improvements. We are happy to be working with St Thomas's Priory Golf Club and look to concrete our relationship with a more permanent County presence at the Club"
