played this course many times, and improving with age, still a young course but with the arrival of a new green keeper from Scotland, a couple of years ago. The course has improved so much.

The number one course at Thornbury has matured considerably over the last three years, since I first played there. The tees are well maintained, the fairways tightly cut and fair in width, and the greens just get better and better. Having let the rough get a little rougher, the course is now a fair test of golf. The good shots are well rewarded and bad shots punished, especially with the well placed water hazards on the inward nine. The driving range is excellent for a brief warm up you can buy a bucket of about thirty balls just to loosen up with , and the putting green is adjacent to the first tee and is a good reflection of the greens on the course. The staff are always accomodating and friendly.

Being a public course which is very rarely closed in inclement weather, the condition of the greens can be a bit suspect at times. The course is relatively short and open and would not present much of a challenge to a low handicap player. Having said that, the course is attractive, and some holes will challenge the mid-to-high handicapper, in particular the 10th and 17th which involve some awkward water hazards. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and the food is tasty and good value.
