I am playng here again soon, havent layed it for a few years. Remarkably the green fee (October 24th 2008) is £14.60. I kid you not this is the best 15 quid you will ever spend on golf, that is with the possible exception of the equally imprescie Orton Meadows not too far away.(which we are also playing for the same money). Its one of those places that makes you smile as you dander round, very pleasant indeed.

Thorpe Wood was the first course I ever played, after returning a 130 when I
was 12 it really sparked me into playing golf. Little did I know what I gem
of a course TW was! Opening with a gentle par 3, and then an even gentler par
4 before WHAM! the monster par 4's start hitting you. Hole 3, a 410+ yard par
4 with the river nene to the right and serious rough to the left needs on
helluva drive - as do most of the holes, the fairways are generous - they
need to be, and the greens are never easy.
The par 5's if truth be told are not as hard as the par 4's providing you
play strategically - although the 540 yard 6th with the green a size of a
stamp and about 6 pot bunkers round it needs supreme accuracy - even though
this fairways about 50 yards wide in places!
It is a really enjoyable test of golf. There are plenty of hazards, and to
return without running up a cricket score is always a boon.
For it to cost £13.75 at weekends and £10.50 weekdays is a snip, you will
find few better members only courses - and I now play on one!
